DPI Adds 2 1080p DLP Projectors

Atlanta, Ga. – High-end commercial and custom home theater video projector manufacturer Digital Projection International (DPI), said it has added two Lightning Pro 1080p projectors to its flagship Professional Series of DLP projectors for large venue applications.

The new Lightning 30-1080p ($79,995 suggested retail) and Lightning 40-1080p ($89,995) projectors will be used to launch the company’s Pro Series II, which will be distinguished by the use of advanced electronics and flexible rigging capabilities, the company said.

The new models are DPI’s first to use Texas Instruments’ latest 10-micron, 1920-by-1080p DMD, which is said to “provide a more efficient path to native 1080p resolution.” Previous Lightning Pro HD projectors used 2K (2048×1080) DMDs.

The Lightning 30-1080p delivers 15,000 ANSI lumens of brightness and a 2,000:1 contrast ratio. The Lightning 40-1080p offers 20,000 lumens and a 2,000:1 contrast ratio.

New features of the Pro Series II include a long-life Hyper-Cooled Xenon lamphouse and DirectFlow DMD and optics cooling technology. Maximum source connectivity and accurate image resizing is provided through advanced NextGen electronics, equipped with both Gennum and Pixelworks chipsets.

DP’s ColorMaxTM 7-point colorimetry assures color-critical applications benefit from the broadest color gamut, ultra-precise color calibration and the most stable white point definition available in any display. Additionally, all of the rugged capabilities that define the first-generation Pro series are retained, including DP’s RapidRigTM staging system- a self-stacking flying frame featuring tool-less pitch, roll and yaw adjustments.

New Pro Series II lenses have been improved over those in previous models to include more vertical and horizontal lens shift, improved geometry, contrast and pixel definition. Additionally, the pricing has been cut to about half of what DPI asked for early lens options in that projector class, the company said.

The new Pro Series II lenses can also be used with all of the company’s sx+ and 1080p Pro Series II projectors.

PD will formally unveil the projectors in June at the Infocomm show. The first units will ship at the end of June.
