Discovery Channel CE Items To Tune Into Retail Channel

Silver Spring, Md. — Discovery-branded consumer electronics products will be available for the first time outside Discovery’s own retail stores and Web site in the fall with the debut of the Discovery Expedition brand in department stores, media company

The Discovery Channel producer entered into a multiyear licensing agreement with MerchSource to produce the products, intended as a Discovery Channel brand extension. Discovery will also expand the Discovery Expedition brand into such categories as apparel under other licensing deals.

The fall CE product lineup includes:

  • a $39-suggested projection clock radio, which projects time and temperature onto a wall and features six nature sounds as an alarm.
  • a $29 weather station, which wirelessly transmits outdoor temperatures and humidity to an indoor base station. The station also displays time, date and relative humidity onto a ceiling or wall.
  • a $149 Wonderwall Entertainment projector, which projects video from videogames, DVD movies, and TVs into walls or ceilings with up to a 90-inch image. It includes built-in stereo speakers and pivoting bracket/carry handle for easy picture adjustment.
  • an $89-suggested wireless indoor/outdoor speaker set, which consists of two 3-watt speakers, transmitter and line-in cable, which connects to any audio source. Range is up to 100 feet.

MerchSource of Foothill Ranch, Calif., designs, develops, and produces consumer products for sale through retailers. Its selection includes electronics, toys, clothing and apparels, household accessories and office stationary supplies. Customers include The Sharper Image, JCPenney, BonTon, CVS, Rite Aid, Mervyns and Overstock.com. It operates offices in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Guangzhou.
