DirecTV Wins Energy Star Award

El Segundo, Calif. –

DirecTV

was given the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) 2012 Energy Star
Award for Excellence in energy-efficient product design for advancing energy
efficiency in its products.

DirecTV will be given an award for the achievement on March 15 at
a ceremony in Washington D.C. celebrating the 20

th

Anniversary of
the Energy Star program.

An Energy Star partner since 2009, DirecTV has earned the award
three years in a row and is the only pay-TV service to be honored by the EPA
for making a commitment to energy efficiency.

As of the end of 2011, DirecTV subscribers were using more than 33
million Energy Star qualified receivers.

The EPA is also recognizing DirecTV’s move towards receiver-less
options for consumers — offering customers a household of content with one
central HD DVR, eliminating the need for millions of energy-using receivers.

“Our customers understand that the Energy Star label ensures that
our products deliver energy savings without sacrificing performance or quality,
and we are proud to deliver on that promise as an Energy Star partner,” said
Romulo Pontual, DirecTV chief technology officer and executive VP. “Being
chosen as a 2012 Energy Star Award winner is a great accomplishment, and we
will continue to look for new and innovative ways of operating in an
environmentally responsible and conscious manner.”

The 2012 Excellence in Energy-Efficient Product Design Award is
given to a variety of organizations to recognize efforts to improve energy
efficiency and reduce pollution, resulting in significant cost savings.
