DirecTV Adds More HD Channels

El Segundo, Calif. — DirecTV added 23 more high-definition channels to its direct-to-home satellite service, including five additional national cable networks.

The new channels bring DirecTV’s total HD offering to its stated goal of 100 channels by the end of the year.

The new national HD channels include: Nickelodeon HD (channel 299), Spike HD (channel 325), Country Music Television HD (channel 327), MTV HD (channel 331) and VH1 HD (channel 335). A sixth national cable channel, Biography HD (channel 266), will be added by the end of the month, DirecTV said.

The five new channels are simulcasts of current SD networks carried by the service, and will be added to the company’s entry HD tier, which carries a $9.99 monthly surcharge.

Those include: Comcast Sports Net New England (620-1), FSN South HD (630-1), SportsSouth HD (631-1), FSN Florida HD (634-1), FSN Ohio HD (637-1), FSN Cincinnati HD (638-1), FSN North HD (641-1), Altitude HD (644-1), FSN Rocky Mountain HD (645-1), FSN Arizona HD (649-1), FSN Northwest HD (651-1) and FSN Bay Area (654-1).
