Details On HP Product Roll Out

New York – Amidst the cavalcade of media attention on Hewlett-Packard’s consumer strategy and the avalanche of new products, it was easy to lose track of just what HP had introduced this week.

Here is a breakdown by category.

Digital Cameras: The flagship model will be the 5-megapixel Photosmart 945. The Instant Share camera, which ships in September, features an 8x optical/7x digital zoom lens and suggested retail price of $499. It connects to the optional Photosmart 8881 camera dock.

The Photosmart 635 sports 2.1-megapixel resolution, 3x optical/4x digital zoom, a 1.6-inch LCD screen, automatic and manual controls and can connect to a computer or TV with the optional HP Photosmart 8886 camera dock. It offers 16MB of internal memory with a SD expansion slot and will ship this month for a suggested $179.

Rounding out the stand-alone camera lineup is the entry-level Photosmart 435, a 3-megapixel camera with 5x digital zoom that will ship next month for a suggested $149. It features 16MB of internal memory and a SD expansion slot.

HP also introduced an accessory 1.3-megapixel-camera attachment for its iPAQ Pocket PC. The Photosmart Mobile Camera features a 4x digital zoom and will ship in October. Pricing was not available.

Photo Printers: Aside from the industry’s first 8-ink photo printer (the 7960) HP launched four Photosmart inkjet photo printers.

The 7760 features six-ink color printing or up to 4800-dpi. It sports an integrated 1.8-inch color LCD screen and built-in digital camera memory card slots to print without a compute. A video action-printing mode allows consumers to print small still photos of video captured by their digital camera. It ships this month for a suggested retail price of $199.

The 7660 offers the same feature set as the 7760 but with a text LCD display instead of the color image display of the 7760. The 7660 ships in August for a suggested retail of $149.

The entry-level 7260 scales down the features of the 7760, with an optional black ink cartridge for black text printing. It features direct printing via memory cards slots but no LCD screen. It ships in August for a suggested $99.

Dropping down in size, HP added to its line of compact 4 by 6-inch photo printers with the Photosmart 245 and 145, which can print a photo in 90 seconds directly from a flash memory card. The 245 (suggested $199) features a 1.8-inch color LCD screen for previewing images while the step-down 145 (suggested $149) sports a multi-line text LCD. Both models ship in August.

Deskjet Printers: For the small/home office market, HP announced the Deskjet 9650 color inkjet printer, shipping in September for a suggested $399. It features six-ink, 4,800 dpi color printing using the included photo inkjet print cartridge, borderless printing options on media from 4 by 6 to11 by 17-inches wide, and print speeds of up to 20 ppm in black and 15 ppm in color.

All-in-One Devices: HP unveiled its first WiFi enabled multifunction printer, the HP PSC 2510, shipping in October for a suggested $399. The all-in-one can be connected to up to five home computers and has built-in flash memory card slots. It features memory card slots for direct printing, video action and photo proof sheet printing, and a 2.5-inch color LCD screen.

The PSC 2410 all in one sports the features of the 2510 minus the WiFi capability. It ships first, in September, for a suggested $299.

Scanners: Looking to inject life into the scanner category, the company launched a new industrial design: a vertical ‘picture frame’ scanner in its two new scanners.

HP’s Scanjet 4670, which Fiorina dubbed the ‘thin mint’ scanner during her presentation, offers a thin, vertical space-saving design at approximately the width of a spiral notebook and with an 8.5 by 11-inch transparent window.

The window is made of a durable polycarbonate that resists breaking and scratching. The scanner’s design allows it to be used in a variety of positions to capture hard-to-scan items. It can sit upright in its included holder. It features a 2400-dpi optical resolution and 48-bit color. It will ship in late September for a suggested $199. It will ship with a transparent materials adapter (TMA) for scanning 35mm slides and negatives.

The 4600 offers the same feature set as the 4670 without the TMA, which can be purchased separately. The 4600 will also ship in late September for a suggested $149. The TMA will carry a $49 suggested retail.

Photo Paper: To compliment the assortment of photo printers, HP introduced a number of photo papers, all prices are suggested retails. When used in conjunction with HP’s six or seven ink printers, the papers offer a 73-year fade resistance.
