Ossining, N.Y. — Longtime consumer electronics writer Dennis Barker passed away yesterday, here, after a short illness.
Barker, 67, wrote for a wide range of publications, including EE Times, Home Theater Magazine and Electronic House.
Over the years, he became known for keeping meticulous product databases that were used by Consumer Reports and later for various electronics publications’ product buyers’ guides, in addition to his detailed features and articles.
Barker was also remembered fondly by fellow CE industry writers for his sense of humor, hearty laugh, cordial manner and colorful tales of past jobs and experiences. He kept comrades entertained with stories about his early experiences a child actor (he made an appearance on the popular Sixties TV show “Flipper”), as an airline gate attendant, and as a writer for a popular ancient archaeology publication.
Barker is survived by his son Drew, daughter Sara Barker Rubin, and his son-in-law Neal Rubin. His wife Barbara predeceased him.
A graveside service will be held on Feb. 7 at 1 p.m. at Kensico Cemetery, 273 Lakeview Ave., Valhalla, N.Y.
