Dell Cuts PC Prices

Round Rock, Texas – Dell made across the board cuts on its computer and peripheral products this week.

The consumer will immediately see Dimension desktop computers reduced 6 percent and Inspiron notebooks cut 3 percent. Prices for the company’s 17-inch flat panel monitors were lowered 20 percent to $399, while inkjet printers were dropped about 13 percent.

Dell also cut prices on its enterprise and medium-size business products.

The move came just one day after Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina blamed low PC prices for her company’s poor performance during its third fiscal quarter.

‘Our challenge in the personal systems business continues to be desktop, particularly in the U.S., where reduced volumes due to seasonality, and in some cases, our own overly aggressive pricing actions, negatively impacted gross margins,’ said Fiorina,’We’ve already taken corrective pricing actions, and will return this business to profitability in Q4.’
