Deezer Appears On LG, Toshiba Smart TVs

Paris – Subscription music service Deezer, based here, said Tuesday it is teaming up with TV manufacturers LG, Toshiba and, in Europe, Samsung to bring Deezer’s services to connected smart TVs.

Deezer provides unlimited access to more than 20 million song tracks to subscribers who own Deezer-enabled mobile connected devices, and now smart TVs.

The service is available in more than 180 countries. The company claimed to have added 43 million smart TVs in the last year, and it is predicting that to reach 95 million by 2016.

In a statement, Axel Dauchez, Deezer CEO, said: “Deezer is already available directly via a number of hi-fis and in-car entertainment systems — and, of course, on most smartphones, tablets and PCs — but we believe that putting Deezer at the heart of the TV experience marks the next innovation for music. For many of us, the living room is the heart of the home, and we want Deezer to be a part of that.”

Deezer subscribers will have instant access to favorite playlists, tracks and recommendations via smart TVs.

Non-subscribers will be able to access Deezer’s discovery mode that provides unlimited access to artist-based and themed radio channels, and enables browsing the Deezer library for specific songs and sample 30-second clips from 20 million tracks.

Deezer recently launched a global ad-supported music-streaming service. Deezer said it currently has more than 3 million paying subscribers who listen to an average of 60 hours of music per month.

Deezer will be available on all Samsung smart-TV models produced from 2011 (Europe only), and on all LG smart TV models produced from 2011 (available worldwide). It will also be available on all Toshiba smart-TV models since 2011 (Europe and MEA/Asia, Pacific) and on all smart-TV models being produced this year around the world.
