D-Link Ships Pre-N, Powerline Networking Kits

Fountain Valley, Calif. — D-Link has started shipping two new home networking systems, the Xtreme N wireless and the Powerline Network Kit.

The DIR-655 Extreme N router is D-Link’s latest 802.11n wireless product incorporating the company’s pre-N technology. It is joined by the DWA-552 and DWA-652 desktop and notebook adapters have also started shipping.

The router has three antennas, wireless multimedia support, Universal plug and play, WEP, WPA, and WPA2 encryption and has Gibabit LAN and Gigabit WAN ports. D-Link and most networking vendors have been shipping routers using a version of the 802.11n specification that has not been approved by the IEEE.

The router is carrying a $199 suggested retail price and the adapters are priced at $119.

The DHP-301 Powerline Network kit, $219 suggested retail price, can send 200MB per second of data over a home’s electrical grid or enough to stream high definition video.

The kit comes with two adapters and is now selling through retail and distribution will expand to include online stores later this year, the company said.
