Washington — CTIA-The Wireless Association will consolidate its two annual trade shows into one in 2014, the association announced.
The consolidated show, called CTIA 2014, will take place Sept. 9-11 at the Sands Expo Convention Center in Las Vegas.
The association has held two annual shows in the U.S. in recent years. The fall show has focused on products and services for the mobile enterprise, while the spring show has focused on consumer devices, network infrastructure and vertical markets in the wireless industry, a spokesperson said.
CTIA pushed back its spring show in 2012 to May 21-23 from early April, and from 2011’s March 22-24, as the Mobile World Congress, held annually in the first quarter in Barcelona, has grown. The 2013 MWC is scheduled for Feb. 25-28.
CTIA’s fall 2013 show will go on as scheduled on Oct. 9-11 in San Jose, Calif.
In 2014, CTIA’s consolidated show will meet “a need to have a show that centers on the entire global mobile ecosystem in a way that hasn’t existed among the current shows,” CTIA said. In addition, said CTIA VP/show director Rob Mesirow, the consolidated show date “will deliver the perfect stage for companies to debut mobile consumer products and services for the annual holiday buying season.”
CTIA claimed that “carriers, device manufacturers, network operators, app developers, retailers and others throughout the wireless industry are enthusiastic about the move.”
When asked if the move to a single show in the fall reflects the growth of the MWC show as a global platform for device and infrastructure launches, Mesirow stated, “Over the next few weeks and months, we’ll strategically announce on our partnerships that will show the significant number of international attendees and exhibitors that we’ll host in 2014. As anyone who is in the wireless industry — or tech for that matter — knows, today’s economy and marketplace are borderless. CTIA 2014 will show the incredible depth and breadth of this borderless technology through its exhibitors, attendees and speakers.”
