Consumers Photo-Sharing Habits Analyzed

Arlington, Va. — Consumers are basically satisfied with their photo-sharing options, according to a study from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA).

Based on a survey conducted in October and November of last year, the CEA found that household penetration of digital cameras reached 77 percent. Of those households, 65 percent said they were satisfied with their options for sharing, protecting and backing up photos, and 63 percent are satisfied with their photo-storage options.

Consumers snapped an average of 72 photos from the last event they attended and shared 51 percent of those photos. Email was the most popular sharing medium, with 55 percent of consumers saying they used email to distribute their pictures, followed by viewing them on a personal computer (48 percent) and posting online (40 percent).

Of those who posted photos online, social-networking sites MySpace and Facebook were the top destinations, followed by the more traditional photo-sharing sites Photobucket and Snapfish.
