The Woodlands, Texas – Conn’s has opened three more HomePlus stores in El Paso and Fort Worth, Texas and Tucson, Ariz.
The new-format stores are larger than Conn’s typical footprint and devote more space to furniture and mattresses, the chain’s fastest growing categories.
Conn’s opened its first HomePlus prototype in Waco, Texas, in June. The expanded format features 45,000 square feet of retail space, of which 23,000 is devoted to furniture and mattresses.
Conn’s chairman/CEO Theo Wright said the company is pleased with the performance of the new stores.
The Tucson location represents the company’s first foray into Arizona and followed the opening of its first New Mexico store in November.
Wright said on a conference call that the chain will build out the Arizona market next year with new stores in Phoenix and other locales.
The latest openings bring Conn’s store count to 68 locations. The furniture, bedding, appliance and CE chain plans to open 10 to 12 stores in total in 2013, which would give it upwards of 81 locations across Arizona, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.
