CompUSA Names Chief Merchant, Plans New Business Strategy

Dallas — Former CompUSA merchant Paul Ewert has returned to the company as executive VP and general merchandising manager.

He succeeds Brian Woods who left the chain in February amid a major corporate restructuring.

Ewert was a merchandising senior VP for CompUSA from 1991 to 1998, and rejoins the retailer from AOL, where he was marketing senior VP.

In a statement, CompUSA president/CEO Roman Ross said, “I’m very excited about Paul’s return to CompUSA and believe his expertise in merchandising will greatly enhance our market performance.”

Separately, Jeroen Kanters has been appointed supply chain management VP, responsible for all aspects of CompUSA’s inventory flow and processes. He joins the company from Condumex, a manufacturer of electrical and automotive parts controlled by CompUSA principal Carlos Slim Helu, where he most recently served as global operations commercial VP.

The company also said it plans to detail a “new business strategy” later this month.
