Las Vegas – Eight companies announced today the formation of the Multimedia Over Coax Alliance (MoCA), an organization that will encourage the development and adoption of coax cable-based home networking for multimedia products.
The initial Alliance membership lists is comprised of Cisco Systems, Comcast, EchoStar, Entropic Communications, Matsushita Electric, Motorola, RadioShack and Toshiba. The organization’s goal is to create specifications and certify products that will utilize the bandwidth available in coaxial cable without the need for new connections, wiring or new devices. The first MoCA certified products should be available within the year.
