Lake Zurich, Ill.
– Chinon has begun offering its first iPod-docking boombox with built-in video
screen and ATSC digital TV tuner.
The $179-suggested AC/DC Chinon
AVi features 7-inch LCD monitor to display movies, music videos and TV shows
purchased from the Apple iTunes store as well as iTunes-purchased AAC-format
music, iPod-stored MP3 music files, and iPod-stored pictures. The device also
plays music stored on an iPhone, but it isn’t certified as Works with iPhone to
display iPhone-stored video or photos.
The TV tuner receives digital TV
broadcasts when stationary. It is not equipped with an ATSC M/H (mobile
handheld) tuner that receives TV stations while it’s in motion.
The AVi can be powered by AC or alkaline
batteries, but a rechargeable battery pack is in the works, a spokesman said.
The AVi’s frame features rubberized black finish, silver trim, and large controls.
