ARLINGTON, VA. — The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) again carved out dedicated space for high-resolution audio displays at International CES, where the association will double the number of high-resolution panel sessions to six.

High-res hardware suppliers will mix with download sites at the High-Resolution Audio Marketplace in the Venetian’s Bellini Ballroom 2001, where the latest products will be demonstrated with the latest releases from leading high-res download stores. Highres product demos will also be scattered throughout the Venetian’s audio suites.

Also in the Bellini Ballroom 2001, six panels are planned over a three-day period, each day featuring one panel in the morning and one in the afternoon. The morning panels are scheduled from 11 to 11:45 a.m., and the afternoon panels will run from 2:15 to 3 p.m.

On Thursday, Jan. 6, the topic of the morning panel will be “Hi-Res Audio for Mobile Lifestyles.” The panel will focus on the growing number of portable music players and smartphones compatible with hi-res audio. The afternoon panel, “Meet the Hi-Res Music Creators,” will bring together top music producers and engineers for a discussion of the music-creation processes. They will also share best practices for recording, mixing and mastering music in high resolution. The panel will be sponsored by the Recording Academy P&E Wing.

On Wednesday, Jan. 7, the morning’s “High-Res Audio: Breaking The Barriers” panel will offer details on reference-standard audio playback devices available from high-end brands. In the afternoon, major and independent music labels and their distribution partners will update attendees on hi-res music availability in a panel called “The New Business of Hi-Res Music.”

On Thursday, Jan. 8, attendees will hear from retailers and installers in the morning session on the opportunities and challenges of marketing high-res audio products. The panel is called “Hi-Res Audio: The Retail Perspective.” In the afternoon, the “Hi-Res Audio – CES Power Panel” will bring together big names in the consumer electronics and music industries to exchange ideas about the key issues facing the high-res industry.
