CEDIA Expo 2008: Pioneer Expands Custom Speaker Line

Pioneer is coming to CEDIA Expo with a major expansion of its custom speaker selection.

Pioneer is taking its selection from three models priced up to $199 each to 16 SKUs priced up to a suggested $1,999 each. They appear in three series: Pioneer, Pioneer Coherent Sound Transducer and the flagship Elite EX series. Pioneer is also tossing in some in-room subwoofers in each series.

The EX series of three-way speakers, voice matched to the in-room EX series, consists of two in-wall models, two angled in-ceiling models, and an LCR, all with coherent source transducer (CST) drivers designs said to deliver direct and reflected sounds to the listening position with matched timbre, providing a wide sweet spot. Their 1.2-inch ceramic tweeters deliver response to 100kHz. They also feature 5.5-inch magnesium midrange, MDF baffle and treble contour controls.

Two EX left/right in-walls are priced at a suggested $1,699 and $1,899, each with 6.5-inch and 7.1-inch woofers, respectively. An in-wall LCR with 6.5-inch woofer retails for a suggested $1,999 each. The two angled in-ceiling models are priced at $1,599 and $1,799 each with 6.5-inch and 7.1-inch woofers, respectively. All ship in November, joining a $1,700 EX in-room subwoofer at $1,700 each.

The CST series occupies a lower price range with two in-ceiling models and three in-walls, including a three-way LCR in-wall. The entry-level Pioneer series comprises three in-walls, including an in-wall LCR, and four in-ceiling models, including two single-point stereo models. The two series are complemented by three in-room powered subwoofers with 8-, 10- and 12-inch drivers.
