CEDIA Changes Spring Show Venue, Cites Another Association’s Objections

UPDATE! Indianapolis — CEDIA changed the date and location of its Spring EXPO to April 29-May 2 from April 8-11 and moved the venue to the Dallas Convention Center in Texas from the Las Vegas Sands Expo.

“The Las Vegas Sands EXPO,” a CEDIA spokesman said, “was unable to fulfill the contract with CEDIA due to a long-standing relationship with another organization who felt that CEDIA Spring EXPO was a competing trade show event.”

The other organization hosts a security-oriented trade show that was was also scheduled for the same dates as CEDIA Spring EXPO, the spokesman explained. “Since the other event had seniority, the Sands could not honor the contract with CEDIA.”

In July, CEDIA announced the launch of its first spring show targeted to electronics systems contractors and said at the time that Las Vegas would be the destination for the early-April event. The association cited the fall show’s growth, which forced the association to turn away new exhibitors and prohibit existing exhibitors from increasing their booth sizes, CEDIA said.

CEDIA executive director Don Gilpin said the Spring EXPO will help to eliminate the waiting list for new exhibitors and “offer more opportunities for the different CEDIA stakeholders, including attendees, education and certification participants, and manufacturers.”

CEDIA’s September 2008 show is still scheduled for Denver, with the September 2009 version moving to Atlanta. The venue for the spring 2009 show hasn’t been determined.

Booth space sales for CEDIA Spring EXPO 2008 opened in August. Companies interested in exhibiting may contact Jennifer Roth of CEDIA at (317) 328-4336 or [email protected]. More information is available at http://www.cedia.org/springexpo.
