CEDIA 2008: Cooper Wiring Adds To Aspire RF Home-Control Line

Denver — Cooper Wiring Devices will debut two additions to its Aspire RF wireless control system here at CEDIA Expo.

The new Ethernet-enabled HomeController (model RFBER) is an advanced home-automation controller that can monitor and control lighting, appliances, climate, security, telephones, outdoor sprinklers, window shades and home entertainment equipment, according to the company.

A built-in Web server allows access to a primary or secondary residence from any Internet connection.

The HomeController comes pre-installed with Aspire RF’s HS2-PRO software. It is Ethernet capable and features a fan-less, diskless design, four RS232 serial ports, three USB ports, one Aspire RF USB stick and ports for audio in/out.

Also new is the company’s serial interface programming module, which provides installers with a portable primary controller that also acts as a serial interface module for integration with other control systems.

It works as a portable commissioning tool (install/uninstall) for Aspire RF and Z-Wave devices, eliminating the need for an installer to use a laptop.

The module’s seven-segment LED status indicators provide visual display of device programming and node identification. Power-failure memory allows the device to retain all programmed settings after a loss of power. It ships with an included power supply, RS232 cable and 6-foot extension cable.

“These products provide our installers with reliable and flexible feature-rich tools for commissioning and controlling Aspire RF systems.” said Jason Sherrill, technology product manager. “With the addition of these two new products, we are enabling our installers to reduce installation and programming time and expand their business model with remote access services, creating a greater value proposition throughout their value chain.”

Aspire RF is the focus of attention at Cooper Wiring Devices’ booth (345), as the company looks to educate and train installers, integrators and other industry professionals on the advantages the Aspire RF system offers.
