CEA Resumes 3D Demo Days

Arlington, Va. – The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) is
bringing back its National 3D Demo Days event for a pre-Christmas run the
weekend of Dec. 17-19.

The in-store program, developed to showcase 3D TV for the home, debuted
last

September

when 61 retailers nationwide held special events, promotions and demonstrations
using 3D programming from ESPN.

Sixty percent of participating dealers saw an increase in traffic
as a result of the showcase and many reported an increase in sales, said Kerry Moyer,
CEA’s strategic relationships senior director.

This month’s round of 3D Demo Days has drawn 70 dealers, Moyer
told TWICE, and more limited ESPN content will be supplemented by trailers for
upcoming 3D motion pictures, provided via 3D Blu-ray Discs from the Digital
Entertainment Group (DEG), the industry trade association.

Participating retailers include Abt, Best Buy, CompUSA, Fry’s,
ListenUp, Nebraska Furniture Mart, Ovation, Paradyme

,

Sears, Starpower and Video & Audio Center.

“It creates momentum and helps drive foot traffic into stores,” added
Jay Buchanan, electronics division director of Nebraska Furniture Mart and
chairman of CEA’s newly formed Retailer Council.

Additional 3D Demo Days are planned for 2011, Moyer said.
