CEA Backs Nat’l Preparedness Month

Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) has announced support for National Preparedness Month and joined members of Congress, government officials and coalition partners for a launch event at the United States Capitol.

CEA, a member of the National Preparedness Month Coalition, will support National Preparedness Month by posting information on its Web site, placing articles in consumer electronics trade publications, and printing features in CEA member newsletters.

“Even in today’s digital information age, preparedness comes down to having a plan,” commented CEA president and CEO Gary Shapiro.

“The consumer electronics industry can play a role in protecting Americans by supporting awareness efforts, such as National Preparedness Month, which encourage individuals and organizations to prepare for possible emergencies.”

Shapiro added, “CEA is proud to support National Preparedness Month and calls on manufacturers, retailers and others in the industry to focus attention on the simple steps that can be taken now to help in emergency situations.”

He also noted that, beyond awareness, the consumer electronics industry has a critical role to play in developing voluntary standards, specifications and recommended practices for devices that receive government emergency information.

The CEA Public Alert Technology Alliance (PATA) was created in 2003 to address the growing interest and need of consumers to monitor local, state and national government alerts.

PATA is working with key leaders to develop and promote voluntary industry standards, conduct market research and address the needs of Public Alert device manufacturers.
