Arlington, Va. — The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) has added more seminars and speakers to its Washington Forum, scheduled for April 2-3, at the JW Marriott Hotel in Washington.
The CEA Washington Forum is a two-day event designed for consumer electronics professionals, industry analysts, media and government officials, focusing on technology and policy debates. Key topics for the event include free trade and the digital television transition.
Key conference sessions at the Washington Forum include:
- “What Trade Means in Real Life Terms to Real Life Businesses,” at 11 a.m. on Wednesday will have the following panelists: Rob Atkinson, president, Information Technology and Innovation Foundation; Kathy Gornik, president, Thiel Audio Products Company and Fred Smith, president and founder, Competitive Enterprise Institute. They will examine what the global supply chain means to U.S. businesses.
- Donna Brazile, founder and managing director of Brazile and Associates, who was also the director of Al Gore’s 2000 Presidential campaign, and Laura Ingraham, radio host of “The Laura Ingraham Show,” will be the lunch keynoters at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both women will debate the post-election trade agenda of 2009 and what it may mean for the CE industry, among other issues.
- “2025: The Economic Scenarios — Garden of Eden or Ice Age?” at 2 p.m., Wednesday, will examine possible economic outcomes of isolationist versus global approaches to trade policy.
- “Goodbye Analog, Hello HDTV,” at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 3, will feature panelists from the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB), National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA), National Telecommunications & Information Administration (NTIA) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), and will discuss the necessary steps needed to ensure a smooth transition to digital television.
- “Analog Sets and Recycling,” at 2 p.m., Thursday, moderated by Brian Taylor, editor in chief, Recycling Today Media Group, will examine industry initiatives to educate consumers on the importance of electronics recycling.
The CEA Washington Forum also will include the fourth annual Digital Patriots Dinner, honoring Verizon’s Ivan Seidenberg, as well as Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT) and Congressman Tom Davis (R-VA) on April 2. All proceeds will benefit the USO of Metropolitan Washington.
