Casio Intros 10-Megapixel Digicam

Dover, N.J. — The dormant “megapixel wars” look to be simmering again as Casio announced a 10-megapixel compact digital camera today.

The Exilim EX-Z1000 features a new wide-format, 2.8-inch LCD screen with 230,400 pixel resolution, which the company claims eases outdoor viewing. It offers a 4x optical zoom, 37 Best Shot scene modes, ISO sensitivity to 3200, a battery life of 360 shots (according to CIPA standards) and a “rapid flash” feature for shooting up to three images in quick succession.

The new model will also offer Casio’s Anti-Shake DSP for minimizing blur caused by hand movement.

According to Casio, the high-resolution sensor allows the camera to offer several new features including a “Zoom Continuous Shutter” mode. In this mode, the user can compare a wide angle and a telephoto shot in the same display. The user can then and snap both shots simultaneously with one press of the shutter, the company said.

The EX-Z1000 will have a suggested retail price of $399.99 and ships in June.
