Case Makers Extend Lines For New Smartphones, Tablets

New York — Case makers are embracing new smartphone and tablet models with a flurry of designs rolling out this week.

iLuv Creative Technology is now shipping its line of cases for the Samsung Galaxy S5. 

The line features updated versions of some of iLuv’s most popular designs, including its Jstyle premium leather wallet cases, FlightFit dual-layer protective cases, Vyneer polycarbonate and TPU cases, Gossamer clear hard-shell cases, and Gelato soft cases. All the new cases maintain access to all the S5’s ports and controls.

iLuv is also offering two screen film kits for the S5, a glare-free protective kit and a privacy film kit.

Griffin Technology has extended its best-selling ruggedized Survivor cases to Samsung Galaxy TabPro 8.4 and the new Tab4 series of tablets.

The Survivor series meets military standards for protection from dust, sand, rain, drops, shock and vibration.

The Survivor for the Samsung Galaxy TabPro 8.4 is built on a shatter-resistant polycarbonate frame wrapped in shock-absorbing silicone. An internal display shield deflects wind and rain and hinged plugs seal the dock connector and other ports when they are not in use. The included stand clips on then folds open for landscape viewing and typing.

The Survivor for Galaxy TabPro 8.4 is available for order beginning today on Griffin’s web store for $64.99. Griffin expects shipping to begin in four to five weeks.

Survivor cases for the Samsung Galaxy Tab4 series models will be available in late June. The Survivor for Tab4 7.0 ($59.99) will be available in black, blue and pink; and Survivor cases for the Tab4 8.0 ($64.99) and Tab4 10.1 ($79.99) will be available in black.

New for the HTC One M8 smartphone, which rolled out this month, comes two cases from STM Bags.

The Grip 2 is a lightweight (0.67 ounces), ridged molded tactical plastic hard shell with a raised bezel for screen protection. It comes in six colors with a street price of about $15.

The Harbour 2 wraps the One M8 in two layers: a dual-density soft thermo polyurethane lining with a hard-shell polycarbonate exterior. It has an improved satin matte finish for long-term fingerprint and scratch resistance, the company said. It has a suggested retail of $30.

Logitech announced an expansion of its tablet case lineup with the introduction of three cases for Apple’s iPads.

The Logitech Hinge is a flexible, protective case with a smooth-gliding hinge that positions the iPad’s viewing angle for any use. The case is precision engineered with spill-resistant, wipe-clean materials to the iPad from accidental bumps, scratches and spills. It retails for $59.99 for iPad Air and $49.99 for iPad Mini and iPad Mini with Retina display.

Logitech’s new Big Bang offers impact protection in a thin and light folio design. The case’s shell and case cover are made of a shock-absorbent material that is also used in aerospace, automotive and sports industries to protect against drops, screen impact and bumps, the company said. It retails for $99.99 for the iPad Air and $79.99 for iPad Mini models.

Logitech’s Turnaround is a rotating case with multi-angle stand that transforms into a protective clutch. It retails for $59.99 for iPad Air and $49.99 for iPad Mini models.

In addition, Logitech announced an update to its best-selling keyboard cover for iPad. The new Logitech Ultrathin for iPad features improved flexibility and design, the company said, with a thinner and lighter footprint and a new multi-angle slot to adjust the viewing angle. Retail prices are $99.99 for iPad Air and $89.99 for iPad Mini models.

For iPhone 5 models, Belkin unveiled a case collection for women from Detroit-based fashion designer Tracy Reese that rolled out to Target stores this week.

The cases are made of brightly patterned, high-gloss hard polycarbonate with button protection and access to all controls, ports and lenses.

Patterns include Fuchsia Foulard and Cobalt Brocade and retail for $29.99.

Reese is a favorite designer of First Lady Michelle Obama.
