Canon Updates Pro EF Lens Availability Dates

., Wednesday announced updated
availability dates for five of its EF series d-SLR lenses.

Models and new availability dates include: Canon’s EF 8-15mm f/4L
Fisheye USM lens, scheduled to be available in late July; the EF 300mm f/2.8L
IS II USM and EF 400mm f/2.8L IS II USM lenses, scheduled to be available in
late August 2011; and the EF 500mm F4L IS II USM and EF 600mm F4L IS II USM
lenses, available in December.

Among the standouts: the EF 8-15mm f/4L USM is billed as the
world’s widest fisheye zoom lens. It delivers a 180-degree diagonal angle of
view for all EOS SLR cameras with imaging formats ranging from full-frame to
APS-C, and provides 180-degree circular fisheye images for full-frame EOS
models. It will carry a $1,399 suggested retail price.

The Canon EF 300mm f/2.8L IS II USM lens is a sixth-generation
Canon 300mm f/2.8 lens. This version features improved image quality, lighter
weight, improved Image stabilization and enhanced durability. It will carry a $6,599
suggested retail.

The Canon EF 400mm f/2.8L IS II USM lens is the fifth-generation
in Canon’s 400mm f/2.8 series and is updated with reduced weight, and improved
sharpness with the addition of two fluorite 
lens elements for improved quality and reduced chromatic aberration. It
will carry a $10,499 suggested retail.

The EF 500mm f/4L IS II USM is billed as a lighter weight option
for situations that require a long focal length with improved image quality and
enhanced durability over its predecessor. It also adds two fluorite lens elements
for improved image quality, is lighter, and will carry a $9,499 suggested
retail

The EF 600mm f/4L IS II USM lens is a second generation of a
model first released in 1999. It features improved optical performance at an
$11,999 suggested retail price, Canon said.
