Cambridge Introduces Single-Speaker System

Cambridge SoundWorks has introduced a new single speaker surround sound system that it will sell through its catalog and online e-commerce site.

SurroundWorks 200 features a multichannel center speaker, a subwoofer and a DVD/AM/FM control center — all connected with two cables.

The system ships in one box for a suggested retail price of $999.99.

The main speaker features a three-driver array in one cabinet that recreates the surround sound effect using Binaura Audio Surround Processor (BASP) technology that achieves its effect without the need to bounce sound off the wall, said Bob Hazelwood, product manager, Cambridge SoundWorks.

The single speaker can be placed atop a television or wall-mounted and connects to the powered bass module via a single cable.

The bass unit measures in under 1 cubic foot and features a 225-watt multichannel BASH amplifier and BASP circuitry.

Tying the system together, the AVS600 combines a progressive scan DVD player with a preamp/control center and AM/FM stereo tuner. It can decode Dolby Digital, DTS and Dolby Pro-Logic II and plays DVD-Audio discs and MP3 music files. The player also displays JPEG image files and connects to the base unit via a single cable.
