Calumet Closes U.S. Business

Chicago — Calumet Photographic, the international digital imaging chain, has filed for Chapter 7 liquidation and shut its Chicago-based U.S. operations.

According to a report in the Chicago Tribune, the 75-year-old business listed its liabilities at between $10 million and $50 million. It continues to operate retail and rental stores in Europe.

Calumet ranked 97th in TWICE’s Top 100 CE Retailers Report with 14 stores and $18 million in CE sales in 2012. More recently, it entered the new markets of Washington, D.C., and Florida; launched a new web platform; and promoted operations VP Gabriel Garcia to president in January.

“It has been a joy to share our passion for photography with you all of these years,” the company posted on Facebook before taking down its page. “We’ll miss each other and we’ll miss all of our customers. Thank you for everything.”
