Cablevision Expands Local HD Programming

Bethpage, N.Y. — Cablevision Systems is significantly expanding its high-definition (HD) programming tier for its Interactive Optimum (iO) digital cable customers.

Starting today, the tier will include WCBS-TV New York; Thirteen HD, a 24-7 HDTV programming service featuring diverse PBS programming seen on Thirteen/WNET New York; and a digital simulcast of Thirteen/WNET’s local standard-definition broadcast signal as presented on Channel 13.

Also available are Kid’s Thirteen, a 24-7 digital channel devoted to PBS children’s programming chosen from the Channel 13 schedule and time-shifted for more viewing options, and a digital wide-screen version of WNYW-5 (Fox), which will transition to true HD in the near future.

The HD tier had already included HBO, Showtime, MSG Network and Fox Sports Net New York.

Cablevision recently introduced what it calls the industry’s first HD video on-demand service, which includes new release movies and unique titles originally seen in IMAX theaters that have never before been licensed for television.
