B&N Names New COO

New York — Barnes & Noble today announced the appointment of two new executives.

The bookseller named Mahesh Veerina COO, effective Oct. 7, and Doug Carlson as digital content and marketing executive VP, effective immediately. Both will report to Michael Huseby, president of Barnes & Noble and CEO of Nook Media.

The company said Veerina will oversee all Nook Media operations, including software and hardware engineering, IT, digital services, device operations and R&D. Previously, Veerina founded several tech companies that were sold to Nokia and Motorola.

Carlson will oversee B&N’s digital content, Nook Press, Nook marketing and Nook creative services. Carlson came from Zinio, a digital magazine newsstand. He has worked with B&N in the past, helping the company launch Nook newsstand and other digital properties.
