Yamaha Adds Value-Priced BD Player

Buena Park, Calif. – Yamaha continued to expand its 2014 lineup of Blu-ray Disc players Wednesday with the introduction of the BD-S477 supporting BDs, CDs, DVDs and streaming entertainment.

Last month, the company introduced its higher-end Aventage BD player with multi-channel audio disc support, 3D playback and decoding of various high-rez audio formats at a $449 suggested retail price.

The new BD-S477 is a more affordable alternative that will ring in at a $229.95 suggested retail when it ships this month.

While omitting the support for 3D video, and SACD and DVD-Audio discs found in the Aventage model, the BD-S477 does provide a wide range of entertainment playback options including built-in Wi-Fi connectivity for streaming video, music, game content and images from mobile devices, the Internet and other components.

The player also supports the Yamaha AV Controller App for Apple iOS and Android devices with seamless player control.

The unit includes built-in Miracast linking, enabling direct streaming of content from compatible smartphones and tablet devices.

It also provides the ability to view digital images using Picasa Web Albums.

“The BD-S477 combines high quality audio and video with wide connectivity and convenient control options,” said Bob Goedken, Yamaha AV Division general manager. “It is a feature rich Blu-ray Disc player that improves a home entertainment system while staying within most home entertainment enthusiasts’ budgets.”

Yamaha said the BD-S477 complements its latest AV receivers in styling and operation, including use of HDMI-CEC multi-device remote control support.

A direct USB connection on the player’s front panel provides access to content stored on portable devices and flash drives.

The model is also DLNA Certified and can wirelessly playback content from PCs and NAS devices.
