San Jose, Calif. — The joint venture Toshiba Samsung Storage Technology has completed the technical development of its Blu-ray disc drives.
The drive, slated for use with computers, is expected to ship during the second quarter in internal and external versions. The external version of the drive will be housed in the same chassis used for Samsung’s external DVD writer.
This news follows Samsung’s announcement that it would ship a Blu-ray drive for CE products in April.
