Dallas, Texas – Video rental chain Blockbuster announced a DVD promotion offering consumers who buy a 52-week DVD rental card for $199 on Thanksgiving Day a free Philips DVD player.
Blockbuster executives said the promotion is part of a number of fourth-quarter promotions aimed at building DVD revenue to 30 percent of U.S. rental income for the chain by the end of the year.
Other Blockbuster fourth quarter DVD promotions include:
- * A free 5-day DVD video rental for customers who bring a proof of purchase on any DVD player purchased between December 1-January 31.
- *A DVD rental each day from December 26 to January 29, with the purchase of a prepaid Blockbuster DVD Pass for $24.99 to Blockbuster Rewards Members or $29.99 to non members.
A free 10-week DVD rental card with the purchase of a Philips DVD player for $149.99, thorough January 7.
‘Currently, about 20 percent of our domestic rental revenues come from DVD, and we expect we’ll be trending at about 30 percent by the end of the year,’ said Curt Andrews, Blockbuster marketing chief. ‘Given the opportunities that the growth in DVD presents, we’re focused on developing programs that continue to position Blockbuster as the best way to DVD.’
