Black Friday P.S.: Tech Did Better On Thanksgiving

Sales of consumer electronics were stronger on- Thanksgiving than they were on Black Friday, an assessment by Stitch Labs shows.

According to the inventory management firm’s data science director Bridge Mellichamp, CE showed a surprising 8.4 percent sales dip on Black Friday, with the category comprising only 10 percent of total retail sales, compared to 10.9 percent last year.

In contrast, CE sales were up 6.2 percent on Thanksgiving, and comprised 13.3 percent of the day’s total take.

“Typically, Black Friday is the second most important day for sales for consumer electronics,” Mellichamp said, with 22.8 percent CE of sales over Thanksgiving weekend occurring on Black Friday.

The biggest day of the year for tech: Cyber Monday, which represented 33.7 percent of the holiday weekend take last year, Stitch Labs reported.

The sales data is based on over 26 million orders representing $2 billion in sales from more than 4,000 small- and medium-sized businesses from 2014 through Nov. 28, 2015.
