For the second year in a row, a Sony television has won the TWICE VIP award in the flat-panel TVs 58 inches and larger category with a 4K Ultra HDTV model.
The Sony XBR-65X900A ($5,499 suggested retail) 4K Ultra HD TV is an edge-lit LED LCD TV with 3,840 by 2,160 resolution and Sony’s high quality edge-lit local dimming technology. The set also adds other picture-quality enhancements, including Sony’s 4K X-Reality PRO processing to up-convert lower-resolution content to 4K, a wider color gamut, and Sony’s Triluminos Display LED backlighting that offers more color improvements.
Sound is addressed with using Signal-to-Sound Architecture with Sony’s magnetic fluid speakers and digital signal processing technology, said to deliver smooth midrange, lower vibration and deep bass.
Front-facing speakers on XBR 4K LED TVs match the exterior aesthetic of the angular, faceted outer cabinet in the “Sense of Quartz design concept.” The set also offers Near Field Communications linking, RVU connectivity for remote room satellite TV connections and Sony’s Smart TV platform, including access to the Sony Entertainment Network.
“Sony’s 4K X-Reality PRO picture engine can up-scale a variety of content, regardless of source, to beautiful 4K resolution, while wide-color-gamut Triluminos Display works in unison to reproduce lifelike color and accurate shading to ensure the highest quality picture,” said Taka Fujita, Sony home entertainment and sound operations sales/marketing VP. “Sony’s X-tended Dynamic Range technology leads to unprecedented brightness and deeper detail even in the whitest whites or darkest blacks on the screen to deliver a truly brilliant picture quality.”
