Best Buy Readies Cellphone Promotions

NEW YORK – Best Buy plans “very significant promotions” in its Nov. 6 and Nov. 13 Sunday circulars to attach CE products and content to cellphone purchases.

Best Buy Mobile senior director Scott Anderson told TWICE the promotions will be the first-of-their-kind for the national retailer, and they’re designed to increase awareness that Best Buy offers cellphones, he said after a press conference staged by HTC and Verizon to introduce the 4G Rezound smartphone. The Rezound will be available at Best Buy and other retail outlets.

On Nov. 6, Best Buy’s circular will promote an “attractive financial deal” that combines the purchase of a cellphone with the purchase of the Xbox videogame Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, which becomes available Nov. 8.

On Nov. 13, the circular will promote discounted phones that entitle purchasers to a free product.

In the past, the company has offered run Free Phone Friday promotions on select smartphones.

In the cellphone market, “our number one challenge is awareness” by consumers that the company offers cellular, Anderson said.
