Best Buy Launches Limited Price-Match Policy

Minneapolis – Best Buy is limiting its previously reported holiday price-match policy to CE and majap hardware sold by 20 online competitors, and is leaving the in-store discounts to the discretion of its sales associates.

According the Wall Street Journal, which amended its report from last week, the 20 competitors include Amazon.com, Buy.com and Newegg.com, as well as the e-commerce sites of Dell, HP, Sears, Staples and Walmart, among others.

The policy, which is now in effect, does not extend to eBay or any third-party marketplace sellers.

Moreover, price matches will be granted on a case-by-case basis by Best Buy’s Blue Shirt associates, a spokesperson told the Journal.

The policy runs now through Christmas Eve but will be suspended during Black Friday week (Sunday, Nov. 18 through Monday, Nov. 26).

In other Best Buy news, the chain has begun selling low-cost electric power from third-party energy supplier Constellation at 12 additional Chicago stores. The pilot program, which was launched earlier this year at a single Chicago store, promises residential customers savings on their electric bills and a $25 gift card with a 12-month contract.
