Best Buy Europe Names CEO

London – Best Buy Europe has appointed Scott
Wheway CEO as the company prepares to open the first Best Buy stores on the
continent.

Wheway, a
20-year-veteran of Tesco Stores, the world’s fourth-largest retailer, joined
Best Buy International two months ago from a U.K.-based health and beauty chain
as COO.

In his new role at
Best Buy Europe, Wheway assumes responsibility for all operations, including
The Carphone Warehouse’s 2,450 stores in nine European markets; its online and consumer-direct
businesses; its insurance operations; and the planned entry of big-box Best Buy
stores into Europe beginning next year with the first U.K. locations.

The company was
created last year through Best Buy’s purchase of 50 percent of The Carphone
Warehouse’s retail business. Carphone, which co-launched Best Buy Mobile in the
U.S., is Europe’s
largest independent wireless dealer.

In a statement, Bob Willett, CEO of Best Buy
International and chairman of Best Buy Europe, called Wheway “the consummate
retailer … His energy and background are a brilliant fit for this exciting
challenge as we move forward with our strategy … to transform consumer
electronics retailing across Europe.”

No successor to
Wheway’s former COO post was announced.
