Best Buy Drops Mail In Rebates For PCs

Minneapolis — Best Buy has followed through on its promise to eliminate mail-in rebates with the announcement that as of today almost all such rebates on computers and related products have been dropped.

The retailer stated its desire to cut out these consumer bonuses in April 2005 and replace them with instant rebates.

“Our customers tell us that they appreciate rebate savings, but hate the paperwork and the wait. We’ve listened. Now, we’ve eliminated more than 65 percent of the mail-in rebates we had a year ago — a big step for Best Buy and the retail industry,” said Ron Boire, executive VP and global merchandise manager.

The entire chain expects to be mail-in rebate free by April 2007.
