Audiovox Unveils Three Upscale AR Headphones

New York — Audiovox Accessories unveiled three new Acoustic Research (AR)-brand headphones including two 2.4GHz digital wireless high-definition models and a noise-isolating ear bud model.

At the high end, model AR AWD510 headphones are designed for use with a home theater system, incorporating Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound within a range of 60 feet. The 2.4GHz digital RF technology helps eliminate dropouts and noise associated with analog technologies, according to Dennis Rosiak, senior product manager. Weighing 7.9 ounces, the headphones use a built-in protective sound pressure-level control that limits the level to protect the user’s ear.

Featuring an integrated multi-chamber design with three 16mm drivers for each ear cup, the headphones offer a frequency response range of 20Hz to 20,000Hz. A rechargeable lithium-polymer battery provides up to eight hours of listening time per charge. The included 7.8-ounce transmitter operates on AC power or three AAA batteries.

The AWD510 2.4Ghz digital headphones have a suggested retail of $349.

The second model, AWD210, is designed for music listening and features 2.1 channel high-definition sound utilizing two 16mm drivers per ear cup. With a frequency response range from 20Hz to 30,000Hz, and uncompressed audio, the headphones have a range up to 100 feet from. The headphones weigh 7.9 ounces and the transmitter weighs 1.4 ounces. The transmitter runs on either AC power or three AA batteries and the headphone’s lithium-polymer battery delivers up to 12 hours listening time per charge.

The AWD210 2.4Ghz headphones have a suggested retail of $199.

AR’s first in-ear noise isolating headphones, model ARE05, feature a 16mm speaker driver and a ported sound chamber design that enhances sound quality, the company said.

The headphones feature a contoured ear piece that couples the headphones to the ear canal, providing passive noise cancellation. Weighing less than an ounce, the in-ear headphones come with small/medium and large silicon sleeves and foam earpieces. The silicon sleeves are made of soft rubber and are designed to block out external vocal and TV noise, while the foam earpieces block other outside sound.

The ARE05 are bundled with a protective clamshell carrying case that contains a plastic cord manager for organizing and transporting the headphones. They are a suggested $79.99.

All three models ship in the fall.

“The portable and personal headphone category presents a tremendous growth opportunity for Audiovox and these introductions are the first of a new line of products that will deliver a high-performance sound quality,” said Lou Lenzi, product management senior VP. “We are committed to marketing products that enhance the performance and simplify the listener experience and these headphones accomplish this goal,” he added.
