AT&T Sets Atrix 4G Price, Availability

Dallas –
AT&T said the Motorola Atrix 4G, the carrier’s first smartphone with 2×1
GHz dual-core processor, will be priced at $199 and be available Feb. 13.

The phone,
which has a first-of-its-kind laptop-like docking station, is Android 2.2-based.

Atrix 4G will
operate on the carrier’s 4G HSPA+ network, will cost $199.99 with two-year
service agreement and be available for pre-order from AT&T on Feb. 13. The
device will be available in AT&T stores and select retail outlets by March
6 “or earlier,” the carrier said without defining how much earlier that could
be.

The carrier will also bundle the Atrix with
Motorola’s two docking solutions. One dock, the Motorola Laptop Dock, takes the
shape of a laptop-looking clamshell with 11.6-inch display. The Atrix 4G, which
mounts into the back of the clamshell, acts as the clamshell’s engine.  The Laptop Dock bundle will cost $499.99 with
two-year service contract, after $100 mail-in-rebate, and with required $45/month
4GB data plan with mobile hot spot service and tethering, which is needed to
use the laptop’s Mozilla browser to access the web via cellular. The Laptop
Dock will also be available outside the bundle at $499.99.

The second
docking solution, the Motorola HD Multimedia Dock, connects the Atrix 4G via
Bluetooth to a keyboard and mouse and via HDMI to an HDTV. It will retail for
$189.99 with included remote.

Both docks
enable a large-screen display of stored HD video and Mozilla’s Firefox web
browser.

The Atrix,
unveiled by Motorola at CES, comes with 1GB RAM, 4-inch qHD display, embedded
mobile Wi-Fi hot spot, upgradability to Android 2.3 later in the year,
fingerprint reader to unlock the device, 16GB of memory, 32MB microSD slot,
2.1GHz-band operation in overseas markets, 720p video capture, 1080p video
storage and playback, and 10.9mm-thick form factor. It’s also promoted as the
industry’s first phone with high-resolution qHD display.

With
the included AT&T U-verse app, AT&T U-verse TV customers will be able
to manage DVR recordings remotely and, with a qualifying TV plan, download and
watch U-verse TV shows from the handset. In addition, ATRIX 4G users with or
without a home U-verse subscription will be able to stream live TV for $9.99 a
month.
