Dallas –
AT&T plans Sept. 4 availability of its first 4G-equipped tablet, the
HTC-made Jetstream.
Jetstream, which is HTC’s first tablet
with Android’s Honeycomb OS, will be equipped with 4G HSPA+ and 4G LTE technology, 10.1-inch WXGA HD display, Qualcomm Snapdragon
1.5GHz dual-core processor, front- and rear-facing cameras, and Wi-Fi video chat.
On September 4, the tablet will be
available only in
AT&T-owned retail stores and the carrier’s online store at $699 with a new
two-year contract
for a 3GB
$35/month data plan.
The contract price marks the first time that AT&T is subsidizing a tablet’s
price if the customer signs a contract. Consumers, however, can also buy the
tablet at an unsubsidized $899 price if they want to get month-to-month
postpaid or month-to-month prepaid plans.
For
4G coverage, the device will operate in multiple bands in the U.S. and foreign
countries. In the U.S., it will operate in LTE mode in AT&T’s 700MHz and
AWS-band (1.7/2.1GHz) spectrum. In 3G HSPA/4G HSPA+ mode, it will operate in
AT&T’s 850/1800MHz bands and in the foreign 2.1GHz band. It also operates
in quadband EDGE/GPRS mode. It uses the higher speed 21Mbps version of HSPA+.
Features
include 1080p
playback and capture,
rear-facing 8-megapixel camera with dual-LED flash, 1.3-megpixel front-facing
camera, MicroSD slot supporting up to 32GB and a 7,300mAh battery.
The device uses the 3.1 version
of Honeycomb and offers the first iteration of the HTC Sense user experience on Honeycomb. Compared with non-Honeycomb
version of Android tablets, Android 3.1 offers interactive and resizable widgets, and improved
multi-tasking, browsing, notifications and customization, the company said. With 3.1, the
tablet also features Google
Maps 5.0 with 3D-like user
interface, access
to more than 3 million Google
eBooks, Google Talk video
chat over
Wi-Fi and Adobe Flash support.
HTC Jetstream is preloaded with such services as
AT&T Navigator, HTC Watch to
download movies, Friendstream
and Android Market.
For a limited time, the optional HTC
Scribe digital pen accessory will be available at no additional cost. Scribe is
a digital-ink technology that lets consumers use a stylus to handwrite notes in
script, sign contracts, draw pictures, or write on a web page or photo.
