Argosy Technology is introducing the Photo Harddisk during International CES. Model HD183 features a 30GB 1.8-inch HDD with color OLED display.
The unit, which will be shown at booth 31365, features a 100 percent boost in backup speed compared with the previous model in the line, according to the company.
The HD183 is designed for outdoor photographers who takes a lot of pictures and require high-capacity flash-memory cards. The HD183 frees up flash-memory space by backing up the contents without a PC. A full memory card is inserted into one of two slots in the unit and it begins backing up the data. Meanwhile, the user can put a new card in the camera and continue shooting.
The card slots support popular memory card formats, including CompactFlash Type I/II/MicroDrive, SD, MS and MMC cards. Smaller form factors of SD and MS cards are also supported with adapters that usually come with the cards.
The compact Photo Harddisk uses 1.8-inch HDD technology and has the advantages of better shock absorption, power and form factor performance over the 2.5-inch versions. It can sustain four times as much shock and vibration.
The unit is USB-bus powered, sustains 30GB backup per charge and doubles as a standard USB 2.0 hard drive when connected to a PC. It requires no external power source to function. Pricing and shipment dates are available from Argosy during CES.
