Las Vegas – Portable electronics device manufacturer Archos introduced Thursday its Archos TV Connect which enables basic TVs with a host of smart TV features and functions, including a multi-gesture TV Touch remote with game control mapping and an HD camera for video calls.
The company will be showing the device at its International CES booth (Central Hall 15322) Jan. 8-11 in Las Vegas.
Archos TV Connect, which ships in February at a $130 suggested retail, is billed as “the only multi-touch Android on TV experience” for apps and games.
The device turns any HDTV into an Android powered smart TV providing the full Android ecosystem with a specially designed TV Touch remote.
The TV connect allows users to control their TVs just like a tablet — using typing, and tapping, swiping, zoom-in, zoom-out touch and gesture commands.
With the TV Connect enables playing games, streaming videos, video chatting in HD, emailing and web surfing on the TV screen.
The Archos TVconnect runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

The unit’s touch remote includes a pointer to control the TV like a tablet; full multi-touch gesture support; full keyboard functionality with requisite Android shortcuts including a shortcut key for voice controls and voice typing; Android game play of titles in the PlayStore, dual thumb sticks; and a game mapping tool for translating game controls to the buttons of the remote.
Smart TV functionality includes: open internet surfing; online video streaming of top services including YouTube, Daily motion, etc.; email; HD video calling on Skype, Google Talk and others; an HD webcam, LED call notification, multimedia player software, and popular cable and port connections including HDMI (cable included), full USB host and micro SD slot.
