Archos Adds LTE Tablet, Expands Smartphone Selection

Denver — Arcos will go to the Mobile World Congress with an expanded line of Android smartphones and the company’s first cellular-equipped tablet, which features 4G LTE.

U.S. availability plans weren’t announced, but Archos smartphones launched at International CES are targeted to U.S. carriers and for unlocked sales in the U.S.

One of the new smartphones is the company’s first with octa-core CPU, and another offers the company’s largest screen to date at 6.4 inches. The LTE-equipped tablet is promoted as the industry’s first 8-inch 4G tablet under $250. All products access the Google Play store.

The three Android smartphones are 3G GSM/W-CDMA HSPA+21Mbps models. On an unlocked basis, two are priced at $199 and one at $119. They’ll join two GSM/W-CDMA/LTE smartphones unveiled at International CES at an unlocked $249 and $199, respectively. They were slated for availability sometime in March.

The smartphones use Mediatek CPU to hit affordable price points.

Here’s the lineup:

The $249 Archos 80 Helium tablet features Android 4.3, Qualcomm 1.2GHz quad-core CPU, 8-inch 1,024 by 768 IPS screen, 1GB RAM, 8GB memory, MicroSD card slot, 150/50Mbps Category 4 LTE, Bluetooth 4.0 with EDR, 3,500 mAh lithium-ion battery and 2-megapixel front camera. The 5-megapixel main camera has 1080p video capture, BSI sensor, autofocus and LED flash.

The three smartphones feature Android 4.2 OS and Wi-Fi hot spot capability. The octa-core model is the Archos 50c Oxygen with a 1.7GHz ocata-core CPU, 5-inch 1,280 by 720 IPS screen, 1GB RAM, 8GB memory, MicroSD card slot, Bluetooth 4.0 with EDR and Bluetooth Smart, 2,000 mAh battery and 2-megapixel front camera,. The 8-megapixel main camera has 1080p video capture, BSI sensor, autofocus and LED flash.

The 6.4-inch Archos 64 Xenon at $199 features a 1.3GHz quad-core processor, 6.4-inch 1,280 by 720 IPS display, 1GB RAM, 4GB memory, MicroSD card slot, 2,800mAh battery, Bluetooth 3.0 with EDR and 2-megapixel front camera. The 8-megapixel main camera has 1080p video capture, BSI sensor, autofocus and LED flash.

At the bottom of the trio, the Archos 40b Titanium features a 4-inch 800 by 480 IPS display, dual-core 1.3GHz processor, 512MB RAM, 4GB memory, Blueooth 3.0 with EDR, 1,400 mAh battery and VGA front camera. The 5-megapixel main camera has 720p video capture, autofocus, LED flash and BSI sensor.
