Apple Is Top Mobile PC Shipper

Santa Clara, Calif. – The iPad has helped make Apple the largest
shipper of mobile computing devices, according to DisplaySearch.

The research firm’s fourth-quarter

Report has Apple shipping 10.2 million
units in the quarter, giving the company 17.2 percent of the market.

Helping Apple reach the top were strong sales of its notebooks
for the quarter.

Hewlett-Packard came in second, with 9.3 million units shipped
for 15.6 percent of the market. HP just announced its tablet PC, but it will
not begin shipping until the summer.

Acer controlled 14 percent of the market, shipping 8.4 million
units. Acer unveiled its tablet devices late last year and at the time stated
they would start shipping this month.

Dell grabbed 9.9 percent of the market, with 5.9 million units
shipped, while Toshiba was fifth, with 8.6 percent of the market on 5.1 million
units shipped.

Toshiba said at International CES its tablet PC will ship during
the first half of 2011.
