AMD Q2 Gains Increased

El Segundo, Calif. – Chip maker AMD made greater inroads in the second quarter than originally reported, according to research firm iSuppli.

The company said AMD gained 2.5 percent points, compared with the first quarter, for a total of 13.4 percent share of the microprocessor revenue.

“AMD’s performance in the second quarter of 2007 was both impressive and much needed, as the company managed to halt the three-quarter market share advance of archrival Intel,” said Matthew Wilkins, iSuppli’s principal analyst for compute platforms research.

Intel took a 2 percentage point hit on revenue for the quarter, but still commanded 78.8 percent of the market. This was, in part, due to a decrease in average selling price for its microprocessors, said iSuppli.

The two firms now control 97.7 percent of the worldwide microprocessor revenue.
