Phoenix – Amazon.com will open a new distribution
center here during the third quarter that will fulfill orders for
products from the e-tailer’s media categories, which include
entertainment and PC software and books.
The new facility will be approximately 600,000
square feet in size, making it one of the company’s largest fulfillment
centers in North America.
“As we continue to expand selection for
customers across all product categories, we need additional capacity to
accommodate current and future demand,” said Prashant Bhat, general
manager for the Phoenix site. “Our new Phoenix facility will enable us
to stock more of the titles our customers want, enabling us to get them
their products even faster.”
The distribution center will create up to 300 full-time positions this
year, with an additional 1,000 to 1,300 temporary jobs during the 2007
holiday season.
