Amazon Offering Incentive For In-Store Price Scans

Seattle – Amazon.com will provide a 5 percent discount of up
to $5 on CE, DVDs and other select categories that were price-checked in retail
stores and purchased via its smartphone app this Saturday.

The offer is good on up to three qualifying products using
the e-tailer’s Price Chack app for iPhone and Android, which provides product
matches and pricing by Amazon and its third-party resellers, and can also relay
in-store pricing back to Amazon.

“The ability to check prices on your mobile phone when
you’re in a physical retail store is changing the way people shop,” said Sam
Hall, Amazon Mobile director. “Price transparency means that you can save money
on the products you want, and that’s a great thing for customers. Price Check
in-store deals are another incentive to shop smart this holiday season.”

The Price Check by Amazon app can be downloaded for free
from the Amazon Appstore, Android Market and App Store for iPhone. Price Check
app users can “price check” by scanning a barcode, snapping the product’s
picture, or saying or typing the product’s name.

In order to participate in the discount, Price Check app
users will need the latest version of the Price Check app on their iPhone or
Android mobile phone. When a customer enables the geo-location feature on Price
Check, they will see an additional 5 percent discount (up to $5) off Amazon’s
price for qualifying products they price-checked and purchased from Amazon on
Saturday, Dec. 10.
