Amazon, Newegg Launch Black Friday Promotions

Seattle – Pureplay
e-tailers Amazon.com and Newegg.com are getting a jump-start on Black Friday
with a pair of month-long promotions.

 For its part, Amazon pre-empted the
post-Thanksgiving period with the opening today of a “Black Friday Deals Store.”

,
the traffic-driving effort will variously offer discounts on hundreds of select
CE and other items now through Nov. 25, and provides free shipping on orders more
than $25.

Deals that will be
available at various times during the lead-up to Black Friday will include:

  • Fujifilm’s FinePix
    F505 digital camera with 4GB memory card for $179;

  • TomTom’s XXL 5-inch widescreen GPS navigator
    for $80;

  • Philips’ speaker
    system dock for iPod/iPhone with LED clock radio for $50;

“When it comes to
holiday gift shopping there are three things customers want: low prices, items
to be in stock and ready to ship, and a convenient shopping experience,” an
Amazon spokesperson said. “So in addition to our everyday low prices, customers
will find exceptional deals in our Black Friday Deals store starting today all
the way through Black Friday.”

Meanwhile Newegg,
the largest CE- and IT-specific e-tailer, has kicked off its second annual
Black November promotion in the U.S. and Canada, which will feature numerous
deals and other special promotional offers. The company is promising “significant
savings” on items including TVs, video games and computer components, as well
as products from its newer cookware and personal care categories.

From Nov. 23 until
Dec. 24, Newegg will also run its Iron Egg Guarantee program, in which all
products featuring a special iron egg icon will have an extended return policy
of 60 days and will be eligible for Newegg’s price-guarantee service, which
refunds the difference if a purchased item is offered for a lower price by
another “major” online retailer.

 Newegg’s Black November sale will be followed
by separate promotions on Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Encore Tuesday.

 Bernard Luthi, Newegg’s senior VP of
marketing, web management and customer service, said the company “is committed
to doing everything we can to make the 2011 holiday shopping season easy and
convenient. We are hoping that our Black November promotion and Iron Egg
Guarantee will give our customers the shopping power they need to avoid the
crowds, chaos and pandemonium of ‘mall madness’ altogether.”
