Seattle – Amazon today
opened the doors on the Amazon Appstore for Android devices.
However, Amazon’s store
immediately ran into legal trouble as Apple sued the online retailer to stop it
from using the name Appstore, which it claims it has trademarked.
The store is located at
offering a free download of the new Angry Birds Rio app for a limited time on
March 22. Amazon will have a daily app giveaway, the company said.
The Amazon site also
offers Amazon’s Test Drive, which allows potential customers to try out an app
in an Android environment.
The Appstore will
function like Amazon’s regular store, with one-click payment.
